New: BrandZ Top 100 Global Brands for 2019
Each year in June, I anxiously await BrandZ’s new Top 100 Global Brands report. It’s always a fascinating read and they continue to offer significant proof that BRANDS MATTER. We know this intuitively but the proof-factor offers some great insights into THE WHY.

In a consumerism-based global economy, it’s only natural that the most relevant and innovative brands that build trust and loyalty with consumers get more market share, have higher revenue growth and generate more cash. Those factors are highly correlated to attractive shareholder returns. Here’s the proof:
Top brands:
Amazon - no surprise there
Apple
Google
Microsoft - making large year-over-year gains
Visa - strong gains as well
Facebook - losing a little altitude on privacy issues
Alibaba - strong YOY gains again
TenCent - lost some steam but I’ll bet they regain it by next year
McDonalds - continues to chug along
AT&T - this one surprises me - AT&T in my book is losing appeal and relevancy across their core markets
Verizon - Decent YOY gains with the best network in the U.S.
Mastercard - Terrific gains YOY and that should continue
IBM - continues to struggle - lets see if the RedHat acquisition helps next year
Coke - Steady-eddy brand, global in scope, diversifying away from sugar-soda
Marlboro - no one should be surprised this category is losing relevancy
SAP - a sleeper in tech but a dominant brand around the world in tech
Disney - Look for even better gains next year as Disney+ goes live in November
UPS - all the logistics and freight brands are struggling in a slower economy with Amazon doing more and more of its own deliveries
Home Depot - Still a dominant brand in the key home improvement category
Xfinity - Without our high speed internet line, we are nothing!
Nike - I look for even more gains next year - a key dominant brand
Louis Vitton - Key luxury brand resonating with global consumers
Wells Fargo - struggling mightily
Starbucks - another steady-eddy brand that’s actually resonating in China
T-Mobile - the growth play in telecom and 5G, waiting for Sprint deal to be approved
Here’s some of the biggest risers, those tend to be stellar performers in the stock market
